Frequently Asked Questions
How are the Trust supporting the industry during Covid19?
We’ve worked hard to ensure that the industry is supported throughout Covid19. Alongside the government support packages, we are also one of the only industries who have secured the ability to repurpose grant funding to support cancelled courses.
However, we appreciate that it is an uncertain time for many, particularly Bikeability instructors, and we are here to support the industry by negotiating on your behalf with government. Longer term, we know that there is lots of work to do to ensure that a career as a Bikeability instructor is as attractive as possible. This is reflected in our Bikeability for All bid to the Department for Transport.
Are there plans for Bikeability cycle training to become part of the curriculum?
At the Bikeability Trust, we believe that cycle training on the curriculum is vital to the Prime Minister’s vision that “cycle training will be made available for every child and adult who wants it.” Therefore, this is a core part of our 2025 Vision and strategic goals and we are engaging closely with the Department for Education and schools to ensure cycle training is prioritised.
How can we get involved in Bikeability for All?
We are running a number of briefings and workshops across the industry and we need you to help us build our vision. If you would like to attend a session or organise a 1-to-1 meeting with the project team, please email bikeabilityforall@bikeability.org.uk
When will grant allocations for 2021/22 be released?
The Comprehensive Spending Review has been delayed, due to Covid19, but we are expecting to receive a funding announcement shortly. As soon as we are able, we will share this with the industry so you can begin to allocate training for 2021/22. We expect this to be in the New Year.
Are there plans to make the award materials more environmentally friendly?
Yes! We have sourced a new supplier so that our badges are now entirely recyclable. We are also exploring opportunities to digitise our certificates and allow the industry to purchase certificates and badges separately, to reduce waste.
Can we have a video explaining Bikeability cycle training to send to schools and parents?
We are working closely with the Department for Education to create a video which explains Bikeability cycle training to all schools, pupils and parents. In the meantime, take a look at our YouTube channel.
We have also created a letter for headteachers, which explains the benefits of Bikeability cycle training and how our training is essential during Covid19, and it can be downloaded here.
